A week of special relationships - and not so special ones

The things I do for a special relationship. Still, it was nice to see the Empire State Building lit up like that - might make a good wedding present for you, Mark, if you're interested.

On a less pleasant note, I had to oversee an operation to round up a Russian spy ring last week.

The Cold War, dead? No, apparently just sleeping.

Just one of these days - no, weeks

Oil spill continues to be a thorn in my side (and a slowness in my steps), protesters at the G20 in Toronto, the whole issue with McChrystal and his comments - in Rolling Stone, for gods sake....

It's not been a good week. If this gets any worse, I'm seriously thinking of heading up to Washington to knock some heads together.

[private to the 'warmongers']
Give me some good news. What's the situation with LA?

I remember the day I finally decided to propose to my Victoria.

It was May 10, 1945. The world was still celebrating over the unconditional surrender of the German forces in Europe a few days previous, and the dome of the Capitol was illuminated once more.

You wouldn't believe it now, but I was shaking like a leaf as I took her out onto the balcony of the White House. And while there was a second of sheer terror when I nearly dropped the damn box over the edge, all nervousness was finally forgotten when she turned to me and said that one word.

Which in your case would be the answer to forty-four across in Sunday's Times. You certainly never do anything by halves, son.

Mark, I hope I am not too forthright in offering you and Harvey my congratulations and best wishes.

Most dearest and beloved of sisters:

Talk to me.

Riots, looting, countless deaths, the goddamn Sun missing for about half an hour...
not to mention the whispers and unseen attackers, but let's not talk about those

Oh, very funny.

Excuse me while I pour myself a scotch and work with the Computer Crimes boys in trying to get some of those bank accounts unfrozen. And let's not talk about the prisoners in transit who have yet to be accounted for.

Emergency crews and various aid agencies should be working their way through the city - please assist them in any way possible.

[text to Spence & Teddy]
You okay? Your mother's been worried sick.

Email to Mark

The good news: It's not our old friend Buros. He's behaving himself (for now) - plus, they've restricted his access to computers.

The bad news: It's not Buros. And this one is even more puzzling. Ever heard of a 'Isabella Walker'?

Took the boys at Computer Crimes a fair bit of digging, but we may have found your fraudster.

[Theodore] What happens in Vegas...

Things I learned while in Vegas:
1. Do not get into a drinking contest with the Senator.
2. Ever.
3. Mrs Jefferson, Vegas showgirl? people have very interesting pasts.
4. The House always wins.
5. Unless you have powers.
6. Or the personal favour of Lady Luck herself.
7. Too many Elvises.
8. And Elvis fans - god those guys are wierd.
9. Hotel security does not take too kindly to hallway races at oh-three hundred.
10. Nor if you try and steal the hotel's ornamental statues.
11. Even if if would make a good present for Mother.
12. Spence is so much more hilarious when he's drunk.
13. Especially when he attempts to call Aunt Columbia.
14. Mr. Adams needs watching.

Hm.

Tea Party Beats GOP In Generic Ballot

Never thought I'd see the day.

Could this be a genuine third party contender...or simply another Bull Moose?
Regardless of the final outcome, it's certainly something to keep a careful eye on.

History in the making. Almost makes me giddy

Nov. 20th, 2009

Thanksgiving is coming up in a week or so.

Put aside all the commercialism, the football games, and the discount shopping for a moment. It's a time to be spent with family, and to express one's gratitude for what we have. We are all fortunate to live in such a fine nation, and to enjoy the basic rights and freedoms that are considered a mere pipe dream in other parts of the world. Let's not lose sight of all that amidst the razzle dazzle that comes with most festive celebrations these days.

[Private to Columbia]
Sis? I got your message, and of course the wife and I will be delighted to spend Thanksgiving with you and the rest of the family.

Excercise your constitutional rights, damnit

Many of the family have spoken on this issue far better than I could, so I shall leave you with only these words: Go out there and vote.

Most of us I know have longer lifespans than the average, but that doesn't mean we should not have a care about who represents us. We live in this city too, remember?

If you have never voted before, don't worry. The system is relatively easy to follow, and I shall be very happy to assist should you have any queries. I know Mark has forms available if you can't make it to a polling station on the day.

Let's band together, and help increase that 54% voter turnout!

And don't make me think about whether we should introduce compulsory voting

[Spencer] The boys are back in town

D.C. was fun, but it's good to be with family again. Though why Mother was so insistent we take that job with the Senator, I'll never know.

Ah well. I've always wanted to write speeches.

On the Town

[ private to the warmongers & the First Family ]

I presume you have all recieved those Halloween party invitations? Vicky and I were thinking about attending - it's a good excuse to dust off the old attire (and wear it in public without being stared at).

Sis, I think I heard you were going. But what about the rest of you?

Oct. 18th, 2009

So, Vicky's little sister Erin is coming to stay with us for a few weeks. How in the world does one entertain an easily distracted young goddess? Inquiring minds want to know.

There's something about this whole affair she's not telling me. Erin's supposed to be back at university, so why is she dropping everything to come here?

I thought we were past the whole 'keeping secrets from one another' phase.

Making Inquiries

[ locked to the New God 'warmongers' (you know who you are) ]

What's this I hear, about picking fights with Christians? Have you all gone stark raving mad?

frankly, I'd rather she talked about the cricket again.

Being head of the FBI office in New York has it's perks on occasions.

Like recieving a copy of a certain letter sent to a certain Scottish cabinet minister, regarding the release of a certain individual from prison (more on this here). A very interesting read, to say the least. And the news makes for, shall we say, interesting relationships in the Montgomery household at present.

No, I'm not pissed off at Vicky yet - though she wasn't too pleased on reading Mueller's letter. And I know she would have dearly loved to punch some of our co-workers at the comments they made about the British government. Though according to her, the decision was made by the Scottish government - though I could have sworn the Brits retained some control over the Scottish parliament.

Honestly, woman. Can't you control your member states? No, wait--

But none of this helps the families at all. And no, a tourism boycott with Scotland will probably not be of any use. Pick another idea, please.

P.S. If you're interested, the judge's reasoning for the original Lockerbie trial decision can be found here.

Aug. 20th, 2009

Old dogs, new tricks.

Just got back from Quantico a couple of days ago - apparently even veteran agents like us need refresher training once in a while. Don't get me wrong here - it was a good experience. Saw my Vicky finally get her badge, after her people decided that she'd been in the States long enough.

And it's always good to keep an eye on the new recruits as well. I was roped in by the Director to give a lecture relating to history - someone having mentioned that I was somewhat of an expert in that particular area. No prizes for guessing exactly why. I can only hope I managed to pass on that knowledge to at least one recruit. And if I managed to 'subtly' hint to a few of the top students, that they might consider putting in a transfer to the New York office once they graduate, well...

So now it's back to work again. Sorting through the few cases we have ongoing, as well as that weird email Vicky recieved. We're going to run it past the guys at Computer Crimes, to see if we can't track down the sender.

Sis, I heard a funny rumour that you were back in town.

we never sleep

It's been a very busy week for us Feds. Ryan, I'm afraid there's not much good news for your people in there.

Our office (along with others in the Joint Terrorism Task Force) were quite delighted to hear the news that the people involved with that plot involving Jewish synagogues and Stinger missiles have been brought before the court on an indictment. That was one of the first big cases I had charge of, and hopefully these people will see some serious jail time for their actions. I don't normally say such things these morons are my people as well, but one look at the indictment is enough.

Unfortunately, we also had the arrest of a former State Department official and his wife as Cuban spies. And just as I was talking to Mark about the Crisis. It is unthinkable, that someone so involved, and with such access to classified material, could betray their country's trust like that.

(I mentioned it to Vicky, and she just said something about Kim Philby and the Cambridge Five.)
